History

Most of the area occupied by present-day Shimla city was dense forest during the 18th century. The only civilisation was the Jakhu Temple and a few scattered houses. The area was called 'Shimla', named after a Hindu goddess, Shyamala Devi, an incarnation of Kali.

Present Day

One of India’s most popular hill stations, Shimla, retains a different place due to its distinctive charm. Situated at a 342 km range from the national capital, Delhi, Shimla is a superb option for a weekend escape in Delhi and Chandigarh because there are many places to go to in Shimla. Shimla is the capital town of Himachal Pradesh, and it all owns. All it provides makes it readily justifies its reputation and standing as the capital town of a gorgeous country, broadly known for adventure activities and natural wonders. Laden with lovely, dense woods of Pine, Oak, and Deodar, Shimla is refreshing in its existence.

The future of Shimla gives us worries because of its dense water scarcity! Shimla's water crisis for long turned into a full-blown crisis this season with most of the town getting water once in eight days. Though now the supply has increased a bit, water is still a precious commodity.

Christ Church

It is the second oldest church in North India. Which is created in the French Couric style. The carving on the rocks and colouring glass makes this spot glorious. The light of the church at night adds to its attractiveness. This view is worth seeing.

Viceregal Lodge

This Lodge is situated on Observatory Hill. This Lodge was created in 1888. It had been used to sponsor the President during British rule. That’s the reason it is also known as Rashtrapati Niwas. The first research firm Indian Institute of Advanced Studies was created here. Surrounded by lush green gardens, this building has 6 floors.

Himachal State Museum

Himachal State Museum is 3 Km. from Scandal Point. Additionally, it is referred to as Shimla Rajya Sangrahalaya. There are several things, like hill pictures and anthropology. There’s also a library in this museum. In which there’s a selection of several historical books and manuscripts. This museum is closed each Monday.

Kufri

Kufri is 15 KM from Shimla. The height of that is 2720 m. Additionally, it is called Shimla’s Barfili Topi. There are many places to go to Kufri, such as Mahasupic, Great Himalayan nature park, and Fagu. Here you can also do actions like heavens, tobogganing, and horse riding.

Green Valley

Green Valley is a picnic spot. That comes in the way of Kufri Hill Station. Which is 7 KM from the Shimla bus rack. Green Valley is a small mountain surrounded by woods. This place is perfect for photography lovers. Green Valley is very famous for its fantastic view.

Jakhoo Temple

Located on Jakhoo Hill, this temple is at an elevation of 8000 feet above sea level. This temple is of Lord Hanuman. That’s the reason why a lot of monkeys are also seen here. This temple is close to Ridge. A gorgeous view of sunset and sunrise can be obtained here. There’s a water reservoir, which provides water to the entire city. The Festival of Krishmkalin is celebrated here each year in May. The church and statues present here make this area more beautiful.

Mall Road - The Heart Of Shimla

It is the best place to discover Shimla. You should go for a walk and it's impossible that you don’t go shopping here. The ideal place to store in Shimla is Mall Road. From there, you can also get local and homemade famous items from Shimla. Mall Road is the most significant commercial Area in Shimla.

Toy Train

Lord Curzon began this train in 1903. This train is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This route from Kalka to Shimla is 96 KM. This journey lasts for approximately 5 hours. The train passes over 103 tunnels, 800 bridges, and lots of deep creeks. The coach of 3 types can be obtained on this train—regular, Delux, or Super Delux.

The Ridge

The Ridge may well be defined as the heart of Shimla in terms of location and tourist attractions. What makes it such a popular destination is that it offers gorgeous views of the snow-capped mountain ranges that rise against the blue sky to border this paradise of a destination. The place is dotted with long-standing British establishments that beckon visitors to indulge in feel-good shopping and binge-eating. Lined with boutiques, bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops, the Ridge serves as the social hub in the region.

Kalka-Shimla Railwa

The Kalka-Shimla train ride is a high point of Shimla tourism and for a good reason. Built-in 1898, this narrow-gauge railway has recently been added to the mountain railways of India World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
