History

Naples is founded around 600 BCE referred as Neapolis translated to English as 'New City'. Since its foundation, the city was firstly settled by the Greeks around 1000 BC which symbolizes that the city is one of the oldest and historic urban areas in the world. In the early 9th century, the city can be named as colony known as Parthenope which is located in one of the place of that time in 9th century i.e. Island of Megaride. In the wake of the 79 CE, a volcanic eruption of Vesuvius distorted, destroyed and buried this beautiful city into seaside town of the Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Stabiae, many of the villas after this incident rebuilt on the slopes of the mountains that haven’t teared into the pieces for the more than seven centuries. The Vesuvius is only active volcanic mountain in the European Continent. It take more than 16 centuries to restore and reconstructed the city into its original form and the city was named as ‘Herculaneum’. This comes to a result of initiating discoveries which instantly influenced Western aesthetic in scientific concepts and also transformed the understanding and knowledge of the ancient world. In the early 5th century, the city is being attacked from all parts of the Italian Peninsula and being captured by the Roman commander ‘Belisarius’.
