History

Human establishments in Marshall Islands begin early around 3000 years ago. Group of people settled in here are the Micronesians. Then Spanish utilised the chance to explore Marshall Islands and they took the islands as a colony under the Spanish empire. Then the Madrid took over the administration. The Americans were the next and their visit was timelines during the 19th century. European countries didn’t consider this as of great use. Their only point of interest was the cartographic demarcation treaties between Portugal and Castillan. Spain. Other than that all the internal affairs of the islands were administered by the local administrative body. German and British trading posts operated under the supervision of the Spanish. The Hispano-German Protocol of Rome of 1885 contributes a fair share of historical importance in the island’s history. This was an after effect of the clash between the Germans and the Spanish in order to claim or take the island under their control. Finally Germany got a passive grip over the island’s administration. Then it was Japan that had the island during World War I. During the end of World War II, Americans gained control over the island after defeating Japan and signed an agreement with the United Nations. US conducted certain hydrogen bomb test here.

Future

All the developmental plans are formulated with an aim to improve the quality of life of the citizens or the people residing the islands. The Kwajalein Atoll Development Authority (KADA) formulates the necessary plans for the future development of the island country. But bringing Ebeye (the slum of the Pacific), a small atoll with a very high density population inside the development plans is a difficulty for the KADA as the landmass is highly remote. As a result the Kwajalein Atoll Masterplan (KAMP) and the 10 year Infrastructure Development Maintenance Plan (IDMP) has been presented with an aim of finding practical and feasible solution. Moreover certain projects are also under implementation in order to increase the investment in renewable energy and to tackle climate change thereby improving the efficiency.. Moreover the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change project aims at improving the quality and security of the water used by the residents of the islands. Special concern has been given towards the people’s education by the KADA after analysing and understanding the poor academic results of the public schools. Housing problems also have been taken into discussion and construction works are happening. Also the German support for the improvement of Maritime shipping will also help in improving it’s economy.
