History

The name Maharashtra was first introduced by the Chinese traveller Huan Tsang in the 7th century. The Indian history goes back into the Veda period then dives to the rule of the kings who were indigenous to the respective lands. Then happens the Mughal invasion where several states were captured and the Mughal or sultan dynasty was established. During the early age of Maharashtra the Mughals ruled it. Then came the well known Maratha Empire of Maharashtra during the 18th century. Capturing a lot of Indian territory, the Marathas established their Empire in a strong way. Still they couldn’t defeat the British as the Maratha Empire came to a halt with the defeat of Peshwa Bajirao II during the Third Anglo Maratha War. Till Indian tasted it’s independence the state of Maharashtra was ruled by the British which is till 1947. Then the current state of Maharashtra was born in 1960. Initially archaic languages like Maharashtri Prakrit were spoken. The currently spoken language Marathi came from its archaic version which is the Maharashtri Prakrit. Mumbai City which is an important city of India was controlled by the East India Company as it was used as one of their main trading posts.

Present Day

Maharashtra is located in the Deccan plateau and forms the centre of India. It has the 2nd highest population in India. Maharashtra has 6 divisions 36 districts. Mumbai is used as the capital city and Nagpur is used as the winter capital. The state covers an area of 307,713 square kilometres accumulating a population of about 126,189,673 people. Maharashtra has a well developed transport network as it has 3 international airports as means of airway transport and has 3 railway headquarters for land transport. Majority people in Maharashtra follow Hinduism. Another city called Pune which also known as the Oxford of the East because of several well known and established educational institutions. Maharashtra is also the home of 4 UNESCO World Heritage sites. This stands as the best example of its cultural heritage. The state is very concerned about wildlife protection and offers high level protection to Tigers as there are well established Tiger reserves in Maharashtra. Owing to the high population, Maharashtra has the highest economy in India. Thus the state plays a major role in contributing to the agricultural and industrial production of India. The state also attracts tourists as it contains many historical sites, paintings, architecture and the festivals celebrated here are also a major attraction for the tourists.

Future

The administration focusses on the well being and uplifting of all class of people. Thus the government is planning to build homes for garbage and sanitary workers planning to build around 4500 houses for them. Expansion plans for the territory expansion of cities like Pune are also on stake. The most recent plans are included in DCPR 2034. Measures have been taken to reduce the cost of living. As a first step the administration has targeted the electricity bills and has passed measures to reduce it to a significant amount. The state of Maharashtra is also called as the future start up capital of India. The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project has been formulated in order to connect the ports of Mumbai which would help in trade improvement. Then the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor plan will also help in improving the economy. Moreover the administration has considered about creating more sale lands in order to improve housing and it’s own sector. Certain regulations regarding big buildings have been formulated to prevent congestion. The taller buildings are to be built only if the road width can support it. Mumbai, Pune are important cities which are highly expected to contribute to the state’s economy.

A historical monument built in the place from where the last British troops exited India. The monument is protected under the Archaeological Survey of India and is a prime attraction for the tourists.

Nariman Point

A famous business district containing the headquarters of some well known business companies. The Nariman Point is one of the most expensive business spots in India. A fine spot for tourists.

Elephanta Caves

An UNESCO renowned World Heritage site, located in Mumbai. These caves contains carvings which narrate Hindu mythologies and are dated back to 5th century.
