History

Since its foundation in the early 7th century, Kano was a state of the hunting and gathering community who were well-known for their ironwork. Formerly the Kano was known as Dala, which was named after the Dala Hill. One of the biggest highlight of the Kano was its Ancient Kano city, built by Sakri Gijimasu around 10th century, which was built for one motive provide security and protection to growing population of Kano at any cost. According to the Kano chronicle, Bagauda who was son of Bawo and grandson of the one of the well-known warriors of the Nok mythologies Bayajidda who was the founder of the Hausa states, became the 1st king of the Kano state in the wake of the 9th century. Afterwards, his son Tsaraki carry forwarded his empire till the late 11th century. In the 12th century, one of the Arab sultan, Ali Yaji became the king of Kano and refuse to follow the belief and rules of the Tsumburbura, converted the Kano in an Islamic state and under his dictatorship rule Kano is becoming the pretending capital of the Habe Empire. As a result of this Nigeria has become the largest population of Islam population in West Africa as of now. His throne was further continued by Muhammad Rumfa in 1463. During his reign, Kano people faced political pressure from the rising of the Songhai Empire and due to this the sultan forcefully resigned from his throne. Askiyah the Great, later become the first female Madaki (sultan) of Kano. She was later defeated by the British rule later 19th century. Kano got independence in year 1963 and Ado Bayero became the 1st emir of the independent Kano in the same year. In 1967, Kano state was created in the year 1967 from the northern Nigeria. From history, Kano is home to the largest population of the Islamic community and also one of the well-known destinations for the celebrations of the Muslim festivals.

Kano is well known now has the largest population of the Islam in the North Africa. Apart from its dry fruits, some of the distinctive North African textile like Bogolan, Leather and many other clothing products is being exported to the various European Countries. Residents of the Kano celebrate ‘Durbar’ which is commonly known as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha in many of the Islamic republic states of the world. This festival is include highly elaborated dressed horsemen full of Kano’s unique material of leather which pass through the city to the emir’s palace. Kano presently known as the commercial centre of Northern Nigeria with its more than 10 business parks and the city is powered by the Challawa Gorge Dam which is considered as the main source of the hydro power in the city. In the future, the dry fruits of the city will sold to those people as well who are suffering from the diseases like Parkinson, PTSD and Rickets etc. Despite of having a rough start since its foundation the city is now ranked as 2nd largest industrial centre in Nigeria due to its increasing number of business parks the city is nowadays researching new inventions in a very effective and efficient manner. Its unique way to celebrating various Muslim festivals is now ranked as the top 5 celebrations of the Muslim festivals in the Islamic culture, day by day its gaining huge number tourists than any of the countries of Africa will also break the record of the well-known destinations of Africa i.e. Savanna in few days. At last, Kano is the city which consists of the technologies, inventions and traditional beliefs as well. The city also has Christianity with its huge number of the churches is increasing day by day. Kano will be a city which full of different religions and languages as well. Gidan Makama Museum or Kano museum

It used to be home to the Emirs of Kano until 1953. It contains artefacts that predate the arrival of Islam in the region.

Kurmi Market

The existence of the market dates back to the 15th century. It was established to be a warehouse for the North African slaves to be traded through the transatlantic salve trade. Today, it sells a variety of items, especially for Afrocentric tourists. The sale of cultural items like handcrafted beads and jewellery, dyed textiles, sculptures, and other woven materials have replaced the slaves.

Roxy Amusement Park

Falgore Game Reserv

It is a large evergreen forest reserve that houses a wide variety of wildlife animals like bush bay, warthog, gazelle, leopard, buffalo, jackal, patas and green monkeys.

Minjibir Weaving Centre

It is basically a whole village of Minjibir that has been dedicated to the weaving of fine African materials like baskets and drums.

The pottery is situated in the local government area of Dawakin Tofa and showcases live pottery making.
