History

In the wake of early 20th century, Dhaka served as a commercial center and seat of learning. Back then the city also witnessed the rapid growth in the urbanization in the late 19th and 20th century. It was during the British rule the academic activities under 3 discipline were introduced like Arts, Science and Law. The city was founded by the Mughals of Arabia (now Arab) in the 17th century, the city's major recognition was that it was considered as the "Economic Capital of the Mughal Empire". Under the occupation of the Mughal Empire, they imported a very unique cotton fiber of plain weave from Iraq. By the end of the 17th century, Dhaka was counted as one of the biggest manufacturer and importer of the Muslin in the world, most probably after the Arab countries of that time. Unfortunately, it was destroyed and weakened by the British rule in 1765 and was established as a municipality by the end of the 1864. Dhaka continuously losing its fame under the British occupation until it was stated as the capital of Eastern Bengal and Assam province from 1905-12.

Present Day

Dhaka is presently is the largest city and capital of the Bangladesh. According to the myths, the city is Dhaka is named after the goddess 'Dhakeshwasri' or some resident's belief's is that it may name after 'Dhak', a musical instrument. The city has the some of the perfect recipes of their menu from the modernized western countries to the old cult classic foods. The city main highlight for the foodie tourists is the cuisines of the restaurant or hotels which will make you never leave the town ever. The cuisines are basically includes of the vegies to rice cakes and tasty Biryani to seafood which indicates that the city is the combination of the present day recipes and traditional piece of art as well. The costs for living as a tourists is very lavish and considered to be expensive for some of the tourists it is due to product which inclusive of the basic needs as well which is being imported by the nearby countries especially India but if we keep these things aside the Dhaka city is one of the best sublime destinations of the Asia continent which consists of the thriving streets and rivers with full fledged colorful chaos. At last, the Dhaka city is great and motivating example as it was a well-developed economic state at time of the Mughal Empire and now also counted as a country of very competitive and excessive cost-effective conditions among the other countries of the Asian countries.

Apart from its media and entertainment, Dhaka has nicknamed as "Capital of Rickshaw" by the locals or tourists cause of its increasing number of rickshaw pullers day by day which is about approx. more than 80 thousand and counting. This makes the traveling or commuting pretty easy for the locals and the travelers. At last, Dhaka is a city of successful, rich and crowded metropolitan consists of over 20 million people. It is the city of proof that even the things which diminished and distorted the city in the past but the city has stand up and started regaining its strength from the experiences that occurred in the past. Now Bangladesh is considered to be best definition of the 'Developed countries of the Asia'.

Ahsan Manzil (Pink Palace), Ahsanullah Road, Dhaka

A British Raj-era building that served as a residence for the Nawab of Dhaka. It lies on the banks of the Buriganga River, and is famous for its pink stonework. There are 31 rooms within, and the huge dome atop can be seen from miles around.

Banga Bhaban

Official residence of the President, located in the city. This grand palace of the British India era is only visible from the outside.

Curzon Hall, University of Dhaka, Dhaka

An architecturally beautiful building named after Lord Curzon. Once intended as a town hall, it now houses the Science Faculty of the University of Dhaka.

Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (National Parliament), Sher-e-Bangla Nagar

Designed by the famous American architect, Louis I. Kahn, it is renowned as a modern architectural wonder of the region. The Parliament is surrounded by gardens that form a peaceful getaway from the chaos of the city.

Lalbagh Fort, Old Dhaka

Built in 1678 AD by Prince Mohammad Azam, son of Mughal emperor Aurangazeb. The fort was the scene of many bloody battles, including those during the Mughal era, a revolt against the British during the time of the Raj and protection for the revolutionary forces during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

Old High Court Building, Kazi Nazrul Islam Ave, Ramna, Dhaka

Originally built as the residence of the British Governor, it illustrates a happy blend of European and Mughal architecture. Now houses the Supreme Court. It is unknown whether tours are conducted.

Dhaka Zoo (Mirpur Zoo), Mirpur, Dhaka

Colorful and attractive collections of different local and foreign species of animals and birds, including the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. Elephant and horse riding is available for a very cheap price.

National Museum, Shahbag Rd Dhaka, Bangladesh

Contains a large number of interesting collections, including sculptures and paintings from the Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim periods. Next door is a popular public library.
