Kumar Sangakkara is a Sri Lankan cricket player and former captain of the Sri Lankan Team. He is one of the best batsmen of all time. He is also a commentator. He was also a wicket-keeper and holds many records in his cricket career.

Early Life

Sangakkara was born on October 27, 1977, in Matale, Sri Lanka. He is the son of Anuska Surangana and Swarnakumara Sangakkara, a lawyer at-law. His folks were settled in Kandy. Sangakkara did his education at Trinity College, Kandy an autonomous tip-top private young men’s school. Kumar Sangakkara has two sisters and a senior sibling Vemindra. All these relatives had made global-level accomplishments during their school life. Sangakkara likewise started to play various games: badminton, tennis, swimming, table tennis, and cricket at the lesser school. In 1996, he had finished his advanced level exam in the Arts stream. He was awarded the highest honor of Trinity College, the Ryde Gold Medal for being the best all-around student of the year.

Road to Success

On July 20, 2000, Kumar Sangakkara made his Test cricket debut in South Africa. Sangakkara scored 23 runs. Sangakkara made his ODI debut against Pakistan where he scored 35 runs. Sangakkara scored 85 runs in the match playing against South Africa in the second match of the triangular series, where he got his first man of the match. He finished the series with 199 runs, with an average run of 66.33. He secured his place for the up-and-coming Test arrangement against South Africa. In August 2001, Sangakkara scored his first century in the first match in India tour Sri Lanka three-test series. His innings of 105 not out at number three helped set up a ten-wicket triumph for Sri Lanka. In the same year, Sangakkara scored his second Test century in West Indians tours Sri Lanka in the first match. In 2002, Sangakkara scored a double century against Pakistan in the Second Asian Test Championship. Sangakkara’s extraordinary performance won that title to the Sir-Lankan team. In April 2003, Sangakkara made his first ODI century against Pakistan. In 2004, He made a partnership of 438 with Marvan Atapattu for the second wicket Zimbabwe. In that game, he scored 270, his first 250+ score. In July 2005, he was chosen to the ICC World XI ODI group however passed up a major opportunity from its Test partner. In February 2006, Sangakkara was made vice-captain and Mahela Jayawardene captain after Marvan Atapattu was injured. In July 2006, Sangakkara made the second-highest test score of 287 runs against South Africa. Sangakkara and Jayawardene made the world’s highest partnership with 624 runs in Test Cricket.

Challenges

On 3 March 2009, a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team convoy in Pakistan injured 6 Sri Lankan players including Sangakkara. Sangakkara suffered shrapnel wounds in his shoulder.
