About

Flora’s for spring, groundbreaking! If you heard and remember you probably are a fashion prodigy who is interested in the manifestation of fashion, couture was given birth .it was a startling discovery to channelize the world of fashion. Christian Dior- born in Normandy France, Dior moved to Paris with his parents at the age of ten and went on to study political science, until 1935 Dior was unaware of his belongingness, his fashion career was not started until 1935, during the world war 2 he started selling his sketches The designer Robert Piquet hired him in 1938. During World War II, Dior served in the south of France, then returned to Paris in 1941 and worked for Lucien Lelong at a much larger design house. In 1946, backed by textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac, he opened his own house

Beginning

Started in 1935 it was nothing short of a miracle Dior was able to sell his first couture. Started working for Je Suis couturier with the help of magazines, and by tracing their silhouettes, designed a collection, Dior sold his first illustrations to the magazine, and with a dash of daring he could sell his designs, Le Figaro in 1936, for 120 francs. 14 Dior stated in his autobiography that this was "the first money I had ever earned by my creative inspiration..." and "they decided my future then, and they were to illuminate my whole life for the future." Thereafter he sold to seventeen stilt houses- all he believes to be a miracle. With an emerging face, Elle decided to feature Dior and his creation in their column the targeted audience was young and reasonable modern people who enjoyed fashion, ELLE gave a forum to Parisians and young readers all over the world of more intellectuality, " you don’t necessarily have to follow the trending blue, purple lilac just be your rainbow" American press has a huge role to play in giving Dior the ground to withstand, certainly Harper Bazaar and vogue were out of his league but with Elle that merely was two years old when they both seem to have collaborated and created an avant-garde Women have always loved to be dressed, Dior created pieces and body type was taken into consideration for every size was celebrated " fashion was created keeping In mind the height and weight "universal change of feeling, of atmosphere," that "women longed to look like women again"– Dior’s collections consistently throughout his career, played a significant role in establishing and maintaining his legend

Road to Success

The new-look was the talk of the town and surrounded by a lot of controversies as well, over the length of New Look dresses – a response influenced by the rationing of fabric that was a necessity of the War – only increased Dior’s publicity. His innovation of creating new names for each new line he released "gave journalists ready-made headlines." This was in stark contrast to other designers. By the mid-1950 Dior becomes the oracle of fashion amidst the changing scheme of fashion Dior Advertisement Dior’s timing coincided with a period when fashion was entering a wide array of newspapers, magazines, and books – it was no longer confined to only fashion and women’s magazines. These wide distributions meant that magazines became how people who couldn’t afford to travel to Paris could learn about the latest fashions, and adapt them to their wardrobes. This is evidenced by the regular appearance of patterns in magazines, allowing "every" woman to engage with fashion. The late 1940s and early 1950s saw more sophistication in advertising, allowing readers to make their own decisions beyond the advice of fashion editors and writers. Fashion houses recognized this, of course, and the House of Dior was certainly no exception. Dior fashioned his persona through exclusive interviews, writing a dictionary of fashion terminology, and writing an autobiography. One of the most remarkable aspects of Dior’s writing and publishing is that for every edition, for every magazine interview, and each book translated into another language, the images associated with the text were extremely varied. No two Dior publications look the same, demonstrating a conscious effort to market each publication to the widest audience possible. Not surprisingly, perhaps, the images in Dior’s publications were as much a selling point as his words.

Challenges

Prior to the fashion brand, Chrisitan Dior had struggled with his own shares of hurdles. He had first tried his break by opening a gallery, funded by his father. Unfortunately, the gallery wouldn't see the light of success. His friends would often drop by, and stay over at the gallery but never purchased anything. Unbeknownst to them, their presence was an inhibition for new customers to enter, and slowly with the great depression, the gallery came to its catastrophic end. the fashion brand then, Dior, established itself from the ground using advertisements to allure women into their captivating products, catered to empower women. Over time, the brand grew humongous which started to pose a challenge in itself, since now having to meet massive expectations . Especially after being acquired by a bigger brand, LVMH. They were the main face for LMVH and had to make sure to continue to boost trends and impress the aesthetic culture that it had built over the last few decades. In 2000, Galliano's collection inspired by homeless people drew criticism, but also attention, to the house of Dior. In early 2011, a scandal arose when John Galliano was accused of making anti-semitic comments after drinking in Paris. The footage was released of the designer under the influence of alcohol saying "I love Hitler" and "People like you would be dead today. Your mothers, your forefathers would be fucking gassed and dead" to a Jewish woman. In France, it is against the law to make anti-semitic remarks of this nature, and it can be punished by up to six months in prison. On 1 March 2011, Christian Dior officially announced that it had fired Galliano amidst the controversy.

Failures

Under the careful guidance of the designer Marc Bohan, Dior experienced its success, but unlike it, its parent company filed for the french equivalent of bankruptcy in 1978 and was once again bankrupt in 1981. In 1984, businessman Bernard Arnault bought the parent company, namely Boussa Saint-Frères, which also owned the department store, Le Bon Marché. Over the remaining years to follow of the next decade, Bernard Arnault took time to buy back more than 350 Christian Dior licenses, many of which had been known to be a detriment to the brand's equity in the market.
