Christian Bale (full name: Christian Charles Philip Bale) was born in Wales, the United Kingdom to English parents Jenny James and David Bale. Bale is primarily known for his versatility and method acting and has been awarded numerous prestigious film awards throughout the years. His most popular roles include the character of Bruce Wayne in the Batman movie trilogy, and other lead and supporting roles in Little Women (1994) and Pocahontas (1995). Bale is a well-known philanthropist and actively supports the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Greenpeace, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Bale is married to Sandra Blazic, a former model and Siberian-American actress, and is a father of two children, Emmeline, and Joseph Bale.

Early Life

Charles kicked started his career with a commercial for Lenor fabric softener at the age of 8. At the age of 10, he debuted in The Nerd after which he starred in Steven Spielberg’s 1987 war movie, ’Empire of the Sun’ when he was 13. Bale’s worldwide acclaim is credited to his performance in Mary Harron's American Psycho (2000) in which he played the role of a serial killer named Patrick Bateman. Road to Success

Even as a young actor, Bales was a remarkable performer and he won the Young Artist Award and the National Board of Review Award for Outstanding Juvenile Performance when he was 13 years old. On the big success, one of Bale's earlier roles which was the beginning of his stardom was from his supporting role in the 1994 movie Little Women where he played Jo March (Winona Ryder)'s love interest, Theodore Laurence. Bale found mainstream success and a rise to Hollywood stardom with his serial killer role in the psychological thriller film, American Psycho. The main reason behind the success of Bales and the movie is Bales' physical transformation to suit and reflect his character's obsession with his own external appearance. Though the role and the movie received negative criticism for being too violent, Bales defended it. He starred in another movie, The Machinist (2004) which was a similar genre to American Psycho. Bales is said to have been on a diet that only consisted of one apple and coffee a day. His dedication to the extreme transformation of his own physical self drew in a lot of attention for his movies. Bale won a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar for his performance of Dicky Eklund in the movie The Fighter (2010). Bale is said to not have had an ideal childhood. As the sole breadwinner for his family, young Bale had a lot of pressure on his shoulder. In one of his interviews, he recounts being bullied and beaten by his classmates out of jealousy. In spite of all the hardships of a tough childhood, the renowned actor is known for his intense yet versatile acting style which often includes transforming his body drastically for the roles. Failures

Bale was cast in the Walt Disney Musical, Newsies in 1992. However, this movie was a dud and it ended up as one of Disney's least grossing movies ever made. Bale has been accused of assaulting his mother and sister in 2008 but was later released due to lack of evidence.
