Early Life

Aamir Khan made his venture into the film industry at the early age of 8, as a child artist. During his mid-years of teenage, he played the protagonist of an experimental short film named ‘Paranoia’ which has a run-time of 40-minute. This film was directed by his friend Aditya Bhattacharya. Alongside the acting, Aamir Khan also worked as an assistant director for this film through which he learned the nuances of film making which encouraged him to take up a career in the film industry. Aamir Khan then was into theatre plays for a brief period, after which, he discontinued his studies and started his career as an assistant director in the Bollywood industry. Aamir Khan was one among the newcomers who acted in the low-budget experimental film Holi. This film received positive criticism; however, the role that he played was critiqued as insignificant. His proper debut happened with the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The film was a major commercial success and it is still considered one of the best movies of Bollywood. Road to Success

Although the movie Raakh failed at the box office, it received critical acclamation. Aamir earned a National Award in the category of Special Jury, for his talented performance in the movie. A decade of highs and lows happened for Aamir Khan since 1990. After a series of failure, he did a couple of winning movies: Dil and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin (A remake of ’It Happened One Night’) followed by other successful and notable films during that period such as Rangeela, Andaz Apna Apna, Raja Hindustani, Ishq, Earth, Lagaan, and Dil Chahta Hai. Though Andaz Apna Apna didn’t perform well critically, it obtained its cult status over the years. Raja Hindustani was a grand success at the box office. Aamir Khan did an outstanding performance in the movie named ‘Earth’ which was critically much appreciated. It was considered as his best performance till then. Aamir Khan, apparently, has had the vision to address the problems in society and bring a positive change in society. He’s been a philanthropist and involved himself in social service. His television debut was Satyameva Jayate. It was a talk show which addressed real problems in society. It dealt with problems like Female Foeticide, Child Abuse, Medical Malpractice, etc. The show politely enforced the changes in society. It saw positive responses throughout the country. Aamir was the brand ambassador of UNICEF to promote Child Nutrition. He is the co-founder of the Paani Foundation along with his wife. It is a non-profit NGO and works predominantly in the areas of drought prevention and watershed management in Maharashtra. Aamir Khan has been a focal point of several controversies. His film Fanaa was unofficially banned in Gujarat as he raised questions against the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi handling the Narmada Dam. At an event held by the Indian Express newspaper, he expressed his anxiety about the rising intolerance in the country. This statement was a response to the Hindu-Muslim clashes that were alarming in the country and the absence of strict control measures from the government. This created sensational controversy throughout the country to an extent where he had to face violent threats and had to seek police help to ensure safety.

Failures

There weren’t many failures in Aamir Khans’ career when compared to other Super Stars of Indian Cinema. He witnessed failures in the early days of his career. After gaining Stardom, there isn’t a great failure in his entire career till the movie ‘Thugs of Hindustan’ hits the screen. After the failure talking to media, the legendary actor says that “It’s more than 25 years now that I have been acting and very early in my career; I went through a phase that was a huge learning experience for me. I’m giving my best for every movie that I’m making and my effort for every movie remains the same. But I made some mistakes. So, what I’m today is not just because of my success but also because of my failures. My failures taught me the most.”
